Tauranga v. Paeroa.—A party of Tauranga golfers visited Paeroa on Saturday and played a series of games against local players. Paeroa won by 7 games to 5. Two other* games finished all square. NEW SOUTH WALES OPEN
(United P.A. —Bp Telegraph — Copyright) SYDNEY, Saturday. In the open golf championship of Australia to-day F. Popplewell (New South Wales) won with a score of 295 for* 72 holes. He defeated Rufus Stewart (South Australia) by one stroke. In each of the four rounds Popplewell’s scores did not vai'y by more than two strokes. His rounds were: 74, 73, 73, 75. Stewart’s scores were: 78, 70, 75, 73? Sinclair took 300. Bolger 301, Nettlefold 302, Spence 304. Popplewell holed out at one hole in one stroke, the first time this feat has been done in the open championship. CHRISTCHURCH TITLE Press Association CHRISTCHURCH. To-day. The Christchurch Golf Club championship was won by L. H. Campbell, who beat W. P. Anderson, 2 and 1.
