AKARANA YACHT CLUB
ANNUAL PRIZE NIGHT NEW CLUBHOUSE THRONGED The Akarana Yacht Club’s new clubhouse at Campbell’s Point was crowded to capacity on Saturday evening when the club held its 33rd annual distribution of prizes. The building, which has been erected largely by voluntary labour, was most favourably commented upon. The prizes valued at £llO exclusive of cups made an imposing array. Welcoming the visitors, who included representatives of all the Auckland, and Manukau clubs, the commodore, Mr. A. Braund, said that after being without a home for 33 years the club had at last been able to achieve its ambition. He paid a tribute to those who had made the building possible. The awards were distributed by W. A. Wilkinson, founder, secretary for 10 years and commodore for 14. He said that when he called a meeting to form the club there was only one other aquatic club in Auckland, the Auckland Yacht Club, now the Royal Xew Zealand Yacht Squadron. The full list of prizes and a commentary on the season’s racing were published in last Tuesday’s Sun. Dancing was enjoyed on the “top deck” until a late hour. Supper was served on the ground floor.
