1930 DERBY CANDIDATES

Only four Auckland - bred youngsters were nominated for the 1930 New Zealand Derby Stakes, the quartette being sired by the aristocratic Mardella horses, Worthy Bond, who has three representatives, and The Triumph. Mr. Bert Edwards entered a colt by Worthy Bond—Oleda and a filly by The Triumph from Le Meriel. Mr. F. J. Docherty’s Worthy Bond—Fancy Pointer colt is also among the entrants, wjjile an attractive filly by the Axworthy horse from that good mare Florrie Bingen, owned by Mrs. 1. E. Sweetapple and J. S. Shaw, completes the Auckland quota. Although the representation is small it is refreshing to find even a few local enthusiasts breeding on sound lines with a view to classic performers.
