TENNIS DANCE
ST. GEORGE’S CLUB GAY MASQUERADE The annual fancy dress dance and social of St. George’s Tennis Club, Papatoetoe. was held in St. George’s Church Hall, last evening. In spite of the boisterous weather there was a good attendance of members and supporters of the club, and a very gay evening was spent in dancing, competitions and musical items. The hall was decorated with streamers. The duties of M.C.’s were carried out by Messrs. S. Snelling and S. W. Nicholson. The dancing was indulged in in the Kindergarten School room. The prizes for the best fancy dresses were awarded as follow:—Girls, Kona Lipscombe, as Cadbury’s chocolates: boys, Max Burrell, as a bellboy; most original costume, girls, Truda Richards, as over the garden wall: boys, Shirley Nicholson, as salad. Among those present in fancy dress were: V. Burrill, as an Egyptian princess; N. Burrill, an early Victorian lady; A. Cave, as carnival bells; E. M. Morey, an Italian peasant; R. Lipscombe, as Cadbury’s chocolates; V.. O’Hara, a farm girl; D. Cave, a Greek girl; A. Fitness, a Scottish lassie; B. Hemphill, the best way; T. Richards, over the garden wall; J. Knight, black and white taxis; I. Burton, Roma tea; L. Robinson, Robin Hood* M. Leonard, a Dutch boy; Tui Morey, a fairy; E. Trimble, as autumn; M. Trimble, a waitress; M. Cave, a rose; E. Snelling, the Prime Minister; J. Orr, a gollywog; N. Orr, a sportsman; G. Price, a bride; J. Wright, and G. Fitness, bridesmaids; Max Burrill, a bellboy; D. Hemphill, orange seller; S. Nicholson, salad; J. Landon, lady of fashion; E. Burnside, a tramp. Others present were: Mesdames W. J. Nicholson, J. Trimble, Hemphill. Burrill, Richards, F. H. Leonard, G. Wright, Misses Robinson, Trimble, G. Grinter D. Grinter, Z. Richards, L. Cabouret, Leonard. ST. JOHN’S CHURCH CHOIR ENTERTAINED On Wednesday the members of the choir of St. John’s Church were entertained at a complimentary social by the minister and his wife, the Rev. and Mrs. A. Mitchell. The programme was arranged by Miss Ailsa Scott, and Mr. Norman Nicholls, and included parlour games, humorous choir contest, songs, duet! and supper. During the evening the choirmaster, Mr. Horsley, thanked Mr and Mrs. Mitchell for their hospitality, and expressed the choir’s appreciation of the interest taken by them both in promoting good fellowship and unity among the members. The Rev. A. Mitchell thanked Mr. Horsley and the choir for their loval co-operation, and spoke of the increasing numbers and efficiency of the choir, expressing the conviction that they were working on sound lines in raising the standard and of promoting the harmony and goodwill in the various departments of church work.
