GOLF AT TITIRANGI
QUALIFYING ROUNDS OF CHAMPIONSHIP The two qualifying rounds for the Titirangi. Golf Club’s championship are being played to-day. The first round was commenced this morning, and was chiefly noted for poor scoring. The course was in fair order, greens good and weather conditions excellent. Sloan Morpeth, the holder of the title, had the best round up to early this afternoon, but lie could score only a 76 on a 72 bogey. He was out in 35 but putted badly on the way home. He played with R. L. Wilson, who did a 77, out in 41 and back in 36. One or two others just managed to break 80. Rex George and J. M. Hockin both returned 75’s, which were the best scores in the morning. George was out in 39, with two,6’s in it, and back in 36. Hockin was 39 out and 36 home also. The next best scores were: H. Brinsden, 76 (37 out, with two 6’s); T. Clark, 79; lan Stewart, 79; P. J. Western, 79; E. McCrystal, SO; S. C. Western, 80, MORPETH’S BRILLIANCE In the afternoon Morpeth accomplished the brilliant score of 69. He was out in the astonishing figures of 32 and home in 37. His score, compared with bogey, was as follows: Out—Morpeth: 45 3, 34 3, 343 32 Out—Bogey : 45 4, 34 3, 5 5 4-—37 In—Morpeth: 54 4, 53 4, 5 4 3 —37 In—Bogey; 43 5, 53 3, 4 4 4—30 Wilson scored an 83 in the afternooi% At this stage it appeared quite evident that scores well over 80 had a chance of qualifying.
