BURIED UNDER COAL

MINER RESCUED BY MATES ESCAPES WITH BROKEN LEG (From Our Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, Thursday. A portion of the roof in Wilson, colliery, Hikurangi, collapsed last evening, and Mr. Edwin Cooke, aged 45, was buried beneath a fall of coal. His mates rescued him after a difficult task. Mr. Cooke suffered a fracture of the left leg above the ankle and abrasions. He was taken to the Whangarei Hospital, where he is progressing favourably.
