Robertson, of ■Wellington. 4 PLUNKET SOCIETY SUCCESSFUL DANCE The members of the Papakura Plunket Society Committee are endeavouring to raise funds to carry on for another year. Afternoon teas have been given by some members of the committee, and on Wednesday last, Mesdames C. S. Beechey, G. M. Tilston, W. Grant, C. D. Earl, W. Mcllraith, E. O. Foote and Naylor were hostesses at a delightful dance in the Parish Hall. Mr. W. Mcllraith acted as M.C. The president of the committee, Mrs. E. H. McLennan, was present, wearing an attractive frock of black charmeuse. Mrs. E. C. Foote was in black, with black and blue sequins. Mrs. W. Mcllraith, delphinium blue georgette over silver. Mrs. G. M. Recitations were given by SaMS May° nnell T' AVONDALE WOMEN’S CLUB “LIGHT, LIFE AND LOVE” When the Avondale South Women's Club met fdr its -monthly meeting this week it was decided to remove the word “South” from the club’s name. Miss Newton, who moved that this should be done, said there was only the one club in the district, and the retention of “South” would create a barrier that might keep useful members from the club. It was decided by vote that the motto of the club would be: “More light, more life, more love.” During the afternoon Mrs. Hemus, Dominion president of the Mothers’ Thought Guild, gave an address on the power of thought, and the good that cbuld be accomplished through cooperative thought. She advocated the development of love, patience and gentleness in all women, but particularly in mothers. At the conclusion of the address new members were enrolled in the guild, and explanatory leaflets were distributed. Miss R. Pilkington, of St. Heliers Bay, contributed to the success of-the afternoon through her recitations and pianoforte sblos.
An At Home Advertising, Club Cntertains Friends DANCING AND BRIDGE Softly shaded lights shed a mellow glow over the dainty frocking of the dancers at the Lewis Eady, Ltd., Hall last evening, when the Auckland Advertising Club held its first “At Home.” The decoration of the ballroom was effectively carried out with streamers of cherry and grey looped from ceiling to wall, and the draped flags round gallery and stag© lent a distinctive touch. The supper tables were adorned with slim vases of iceland poppies. For the non-dancers bridge tables were set out in an adjoining room and the evening' was most enjoyable. Musical items were given by Mr. Frank Barnes (Wellington), ' Mr. L. Strange, Mr. Moffatt. and a humorous sketch by Mr. J, A. Sharpe. Miss Anne Gordon acted as accompanist. The president, Mr. A. H. Lees, with his wife welcomed the guests. Mrs. Lees wore a graceful gown of black georgette, heavily encrusted with sequins, and shawl. Among those present were: Mrs. A.
