BATHS FILTRATION

TENDERS MAY CLOSE AT LATER DATE

The question of extending the time for receiving tenders for the filtration plants for Shelly Beach and Point Resolution baths was before the City Council last evening. Three firms had asked that they be given a chance to tender, which the early closing of the tenders, as intended at present, prevented. The city engineer was of opinion that to get the best results the extra time should he allowed, and this could be done if the Public Health Department would agree to the use of the Parnell Baths In addition to Shelly Beach, the Parnell intake now having been extended into the harbour under the embankment. The Mayor said the intention had been to close tenders the day after the poll on the necessary loan. He moved that the question be referred to a special committee, and this was agreed to.
