Accident On Scow. —While working on a scow belonging to Winstone, Limited, about 8.45 this morning, C. Capon, aged 27, of 26 Nelson Street, fell and injured his head. He was taken to hospital by the St. John Ambulance, and was later allowed to go home.
Special Football Trains.—Particulars of train arrangements and issue of cheap excursion tickets in connection with the football matches. Thames v. Morrinsville at Morrinsville, and Tauranga v. Paeroa at Paeroa. on Saturday, are advertised in this issue.
Big Loan For Streets. —Christchurch ratepayers to-day are voting on the proposal of the City Council to raise a loan of £220,000 for the reconstruction in permanent material of streets which now carry the greatest volume of traffic. This is the first occasion in the history of Christchurch on which a roading loan has been submitted to the ratepayers.
Fine Ski Crossing. —Two West Coast guides, Prank Alack and Charles Jensen, have crossed Graham’s Saddle, at the head of Pranz Josef Glacier, on skis. This is the first time such a crossing has been made, and is a very creditable performance. The route passes through the finest mountain and glacier scenery in the Alps.
Library Attendants. —Sixteen applications each were received for the positions of junior assistant librarian at Remuera and librarian at Point Chevalier.' The Library Committee of the City Council interviewed applicants yesterday, and appointed Miss Joan Dive to Remuera and Miss F. E. Humbley to Foint Chevalier.
