KIWIS CAUGHT BY OPOSSUM TRAPPERS

HUNDRED BIRDS KILLED Press Association WELLINGTON, Wednesday. During a discussion upon opossums at the conference of acclimatisation societies to-day, it was stated that over 100 kiwis were killed on the West Coast by opossum trappers. The birds were caught in the traps set for opossums. The figures were alleged to be greatly exaggerated. • The president, Mr. L. O. H. Tripp, said that in releasing opossums they had to be careful not to do so in areas where there were wekas and kiwis, as in trapping the skin animals the birds were also caught in the traps.
