The Road Board’s answer was that it was taking action to prevent the disintegration of its district and was opposed to the attitude adopted by the secessionists in endeavouring to secure the amalgamation of the South Roskill area with the city. The agitation for amalgamation with the city of a portion of the Road Board’s district is the outcome of the recent poll of ratepayers when the method of rating on the unimproved land values was adopted. The southern area of the Mount Roskill district is but sparsely built upon, and the land-owners there are dissatisfied with being more heavily rated than under the old capital value system.
