HOLDERS DEFEATED
HOCKEY AT TIMARU
TOURNEY NEARING FINISH Press Association. TIMARU, Tuesday. The ladies* championship hockey tournament was continued to-day in fine weather. The grounds showed signs of the heavy use to which they had been subjected since the tournament began. Great interest was taken in the day’s programme, as unbeaten teams in each section met. By defeating Otago A by 3 goals to 0, Southland practically assured their victory in section 1. Canterbury defeated Ruahine (holders of the championship), 3 —o, and it is unlikely that they will be beaten for top place in their section. Both these matches reached a very high standard. The results were:—Section 1: Eastern B, 5, Bush, 1; Wellington, 11, South Canterbury B, 1; Southland, 3, Otago A, 0. Section 2: Rotorua, 1, Nox*tli Otago, 0; South Canterbury A, 1. Otago B, 1; Canterbury, 3, Ruahine, 0.
