OPENS AT MARTON COHESION WINS HURDLES (Special to THE SUN) MARTON, To-day. The spring racing season opened at Marton to-day in overcast, chilly weather. There was a fair attendance and the course was holding. Results: TRIAL PLATE Of £120; 5 furlong’s. 3—DERMOD, 8.10 1 6—MARICA, 8.10 2 14—THE WARDEN. S.lO 3 Scr.: Cashier. Merxcis, Balloon, Vaux, Ilillet, Tangerim, Cold Soult mare. Won by half a length, half a length between second and third. Dry Area, Dermod, Inflamo and Black Maire showed out early. Crossing the top and into the straight Black Maire, Inllame and Dry Area were together, just ahead of Dermod, Upoko and Marica. In the run home Dermod drew out to beat Marica by half a length; The Warden being a similar distance away. Next were Otauru Lass, Black Maire and TJpoko. RATA HACK HURDLES Of £150; 1J miles. 2 COHESION, 11.2 1 3 BEAUMONT, 9.11 2 S—LIEUT. BILL, 9.0 3 Scr.: Gala Day, Red Bank, Guadalquiver. Won by 15 lengths, five lengths between second and third. Time, 3.0. Beaumont led to the second fence, Polyphemus losing his rider at the first. Passing the stands Cohesion led from Beaumont, Ruby Ring, Hangawera, San Fera, Waltzer and Olympic. Round the back Cohesion commenced to open up a gap and Waltzer improved his position, only to go back through faulty jumping. Cohesion led by six lengths into the straight from Beaumont, Lieut. Bill, Waltzer, Olympic, and won easily by a dozen lengths from Beaumont, who was four lengths in front of Lieut. Bill. Next were Olympic and Tlangawera. SPRING HACK CU,P Of £200; 7 furlongs 2 PANGOLIN, 8.13 .. 3 LADY’S BOY, 5.12 2 4 SINGLETON, 5.12 3 Scr.: Miss Mercia, Gold Boy, Tanagra, Monsogne, Shining Star, Gasnapper. Won by a length, three lengths between second and third. Time, 1.28. Flying Shot, Pangolin and Maui were early leaders, but Lady’s Boy soon shot to the front and led down the back from Flying Shot, Holus Bolus, Kilmezzo, Takutama and Moorgas. Turning for home Lady’s Boy was four lengths ahead of Kilmezzo, Pangolin, Abisogne, Holus Bolus and Gold Cure. At the half distance Pangolin collared Lady’s Boy and beat him by a length. Two lengths away was Singleton and next were Gold Cure, Teri, Kilmezzo and Takutama. . MARTON HANDICAP Of £250; 11 miles.
