GREAT ACHIEVEMENT
PRIME MINISTER’S PRAISE (THE SUN’S Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. Engineers responsible for getting the Horahora power station back to production after Saturday night’s disastrous fire were warmly praised by the Prime Minister in the House today. A question was asked by Mr. J. C. Rolleston, Waitomo, who said farmers should be apprised of the length of time the plant would be idle, as they depended on it for the current to drive their milking machines, and would have to make other arrangements if power was not available soon. As big herds throughout the north' were now reaching toward flush of production it was a most important matter. The Prime Minister reassured Mr. Rolleston. It was impossible to say when the station would again be operating at pressure, but yesterday .9,000 kilowatts was available, to-day another 1,600 kilowatts was brought in, and on Thursday there would be another 3,000 kilowatts added. There did not appear to be need for the farmers to make any arrangements of their own, as the engineers were making milking plants their first consideration. He had just been informed by telegram that all milking areas were now to be supplied at once, though the voltage would necessarily be low. “I would like to pay a tribute to the engineers for the extraordinary way in which they have met the situation,” said the Prim 6 Minister. “It is a mystery to me how they have done it. They are doing wonderful work. Out of Monday’s chaos they have now got orderly arrangement. They will have the whole system back to normal at the earliest opportunity.”
