UNEASINESS IN ITALY
FRIENDSHIP WITH BRITAIN COOLS
Times Cable. LONDON, Tuesday. The Rome correspondent of “The Times” says the uneasiness which, prevails in certain Italian carcles about the Anglo-French naval agreement is reflected in an article in “La Tribuna.” This says the fruits of compromise are already visible in the atmosphere of suspicion and scepticism which surrounds the Kellogg Pact, the perturbation regarding Albania and the growing doubts relating to the Disarmament Conference. Signor Etti, writing in “11 Lavoro dTtalia,” expresses the opinion that the traditional friendship between Britain and Italy has seldom known j such coolness since its inauguration in 1860. He says he hopes ft will be a passing phase, but it is difficult to understand why Britain, which in the : past has realised Italy’s conciliatoriness, is now displaying solidarity for France, which country, since 1919, has | persistently sought to diminish Itali ian influence.
Britain must have been fully awaie that such an action was opposed u> Italian orientation.
