“O” CLASS SUBMARINES

OTUS LAUNCHED AT BARROW British Official Wirdicss. RUGBY, Sunday. The launching took place yesterday at the Vickers-Armstrong shipyard, Barrow, of the submarine Otus. This is the third submarine of the O class launched at Barrow this year. The other two, the Osiris and the Oswald, are now being fitted out. The O class submarines have a displacement of 1,346 tons standard, 1,480 normal surface, and 1,750 submerged. Their annual upkeep costs £38,000. Altogether 24 ships of this class will be laid down up to 1930. The Australian submarines Oxley and Otway are of this type.
