SLIP DAMS STREAM

SHEEP LOST AND STOCK ISOLATED LAKE MAY BREAK AWAY Fress Association GISBORNE, To-day. As the result of a slip in the Te Aral Valley a fortnight ago when the hillside suddenly slid into the Reay Stream, a lake has been formed. Fears are being expressed that the impounded waters may break away suddenly. Settlers lower down the valley are taking the precautions of removing their stock. When the slip occurred it was impossible to estimate accurately the loss of stock, but it is now stated that the loss of one settler, Mr. I-.- Macintosh, amounts to 200 sheep. Forty sheep and two horses left alive on the top of j the slip are still there, as it has beefe [found impossible to rescue them.
