GUTTERING SNOWFIELDS
MOUNTAIN AIR FOR POLITICIANS TRIP TO MOUNT COOK (Special tq THE SUN) CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. Across fields freshly covered with snow glittering in the sunshine, the party of Parliamentary “week-enders” speeded upwards to the Mount Cook Hermitage. From the Kairlie Valley onwards the whole country was clothed by the recent snowfall. The party was entertained at luncheon by Mr. T. D. Burnett, M.P. for Temuka, whose station is at Te Kapo. The hermitage was reached shortly after darkness fell and there the members of the party were the guests at a special dinner given by the Hermitage Company. The party returned to Christchurch to-day and left for Wellington by the Wahine. Talk is already keen concerning the prospects of a similar trip next year, with the possibility of a journey to the National Park in view.
