YOUNG WOMAN’S DEATH
SERIOUS REVELATIONS WELLINGTON DOCTOR INVOLVED Press Association WELLINGTON, To-day. An inquest was held to-day. before Mr. E. Pn ge. S.M.. in regard to the death at the Wellington Hospital of Adrienne Mary £*touppe, single, aged 20. Dr. Rhind evidence that on August 8 he was « tied to the hospi- 1 to see the girl, whom he found suffering from acute generalised peritonitis and had recently had a miscarriage. She died on August 10. Dr. Lynch, who held a post-mortem examination, could not say If ;»n instrument had been used. and the mother gave in evidence that her daughter had been taken to a doctor for treatment of her nerves, but witness did not know she was in a Certain condition. Her daughter. on August 1. said she was going to W.ukanae for a rest for 10 days. Witness did not see her daughter till August 8, when she came home. Sue appeared very ill. Witness asked where she had been, but her daughter would not say a word, nor who was responsible for her condition. Dr. Clay, who had been called to the home on August 8, asked the Court's ruling when asked by Chief-Detective Ward if deceased said who caused the miscarriage. Mr. Page said he thought the doctor should answer and Dr. Clay said deceased said it was Dr. Henessy. Other evidence included a witness. Ralph Heaton Wear, engineer, a married man. who worked at the same place as deceased. He said he sometimes took her part of the way home in his car but never took her out on other occasions. He declined to say whether he saw her on August 1 or n. He admitted having gone to Waikanae on the latter date, but would n«»t say whether he had received any telegram there. The Chief Detective: Did you see Dr. Hennessey in any connection with deceased? “No: I’ve never seen Dr. Hennessey.'' "Did you not supply deceased with money ?” "Xo.” Witness said he was not responsible for deceased’s condition. He did not know her condition and had never h d intercourse with her. A verdict was returned that the cause of her death was pyaemia, following upon setpic abortion criminally produced.
