To-Day’s Turf News

Staghunter and Kiosk Go Fast TRY-OUTS AT WANGANUI PROSPECTS FOR MARION' (Special to THE SUN) WANGANUI, To-day. The weather conditions were uninviting- this morning for training operations. It rained heavily .all night, but cleared up after nine. The prospects for Marton to-morrow are not bright. Of interest to Sun readers were a couple of galops on Xo. 1 track, which was rather Iwdding. Calithe, Wet Paint and Limosa hopped off at the seven furlong post, the last-named having the worst of the start, running on the outside all the way. Calithe held the lead throughout, taking 1.36. finishing well. Wet Paint took 1.37, and Limosa 1.39, the trio finishing like Brown’s cows. Calithe and "Wet Paint are to go to Marton, and must run well. A Brilliant Effort Kiosk and Staghunter slipped over five furlongs, Staghunter finishing three lengths in front in 1.3 4-5, the first furlong taking 12 2-5. the quarter 24 3-5, and the three 36 3-5. Kiosk had a boy up. but was well out, and was not pushed. It will not be surprising if he comes to hand more quickly than expected, but at Marton he will have 4st dead-weight, being ridden by the stable apprentice. Mask and Episode ran seven furlongs in 1.33 3-5, the filly being in front at the finish. Not Going to Marton Yaux is not starting in the Trial Plate to-morrow, while Staghunter will be an absentee from the Railway Handicap. Limosa is to stay at home, forfeiting her engagement in the Tutaenui Hack. OFFICIAL SCRATCHINGS Although heavy rain fell last night, a strong wind has thoroughly dried the Marton tracks, due to the excellent drainage systems. Visiting trainers are highly delighted at the course being in such good condition. Scratchings are as follows: Trial Plate: Cashier, Rillet, Gold Soult mare. Rata Hurdles: Gala day. Spring Cup: Monsogne. Marton Handicap: Horomea, Princess Ronnie, Wanderlust. Electric Hack: Court Jester, Monsogne, High Falutin’, Green Acre, Teremoana, Rillet. Tutaenui Hack: Kawhakina, Court Jester, Metailus. The average fields will be about fifteen starters.
