WOMEN’S HOCKEY TOURNEY

ONE SECTION POSTPONED CANTERBURY’S EASY WIN Press Association. TIMARU, Friday. The women’s championship hockey tourney was continued to-day in fine weather. However, heavy rain fell overnight and one ground was unplayable, all games in section one being postponed until Tuesday. Canterbury easily defeated Rotorua, but Ruahine (Dannevirke) had a hard fight against the North Otago team, which played a splendid game. Ruahine was the more experienced side and this enabled it to win the match, which was full of exciting incidents. Results were:—Canterbury, 6, v. Rotorua, 0; Eastern A, 5, v. South Canterbury A, 0; Ruahine, 3, v. North Otago, PORTLAND V. AVOCA (From Our Own Correspondent) WHANGAREI, Friday. The Portland women’s hockey team beat Avoca at Portland yesterday by 5 goals to one. For the winners, Misses E. Forbes, M. Wilson, M. Cotter and Mrs. McLeod (2) scored, and for Avoca, Miss Hanbury scored the only goal.
