VICTORIA CRUISING CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING HELD ELECTION OF OFFICERS There was a fair attendance at the 26th annual meeting of the Victoria Cruising Club, held in the clubhouse, Fanshawe Street. In the unavoidable absence of the patron, Mr. E. H. Davis, and the president, Mr. W. Casey, the meeting elected Mr. R. Johnson to the chair. The chief features of the report and balance sheet were published in Tuesday’s yachting notes. Commenting on the report the chairman said that the finances were in a healthy condition, but it would be necessary for the club to put forth its earnest efforts to clear the club of its building liability.

Trevithick, the president, was j able to congratulate the Devonport ; Yacht Club, at its annual meeting last night, on a year of progress. He pro- ' phesied that next year when the lack 1 of hauling accommodation on the city side became more urgent that Devonport’s splendid provision would be more than welcome and be of financial advantage to the club as well. . George McKenzie, the commodore, in his report, mentioned that in addition to the opening and closing days, two racing fixtures had been sailed. The entries were well up to that of other clubs. The ser voces of Messrs. Wilkinson, Laycock and G. Miller in handling the racing we l e appreciated. The donors of prizes i r * A. Brett, who voluntarily financed the construction of the slipwav were thanked. The club would miss the old wharf, as it had been very useful for cleaning and for landing purposes, but the Harbour Board had agreed to make some adequate provision in its place. The exact site of the landing ramp had not yet been fixed. There was no doubt but that with the improvement in haul-ing-up gear that was in hand the club, next year, would be of great service to boatmen on both sides of the harbour. The pavilion was much nearer completion, the work having been carried out by an enthusiastic few, and all were pleased at the fact that the yachtsmen now had a home of their own. The balance sheet showed that entry money had been more than in any previous year and that the club was in a good financial position. There was discussion on the wisdom of continuing support of the Jellicoe class and the Sanders Cup contests. Members were sure that the utmost Should be done to train youths in boatfng and the incoming committee was instructed to take in hand the encouragemetlt or entries in those classes of elimination events in which the interest nad been lacking.
