CHAMPIONSHIP AT STAKE
Shore Leaguers Win Honours If They Defeat Ellerslie
PONIES TRAVEL TO HIKURANGI
SHORE LEAGUERS will meet Ellerslie in the feature match at Carlaw Park to-morrow. At present Shore is leading in the senior championship competition from Richmond by one point and a victory for the seasiders to-morrow will make them the 1928 competition champions.
It can only be expected that Shore, after its fine record throughout the season, will clinch a victory in tomorrow’s game which is, undoubtedly, against one of the weakest teams in the competition. However, it must be taken into consideration that Ellerslie j has been showing much better foot-
ball recently, and after its fine showing- against Richmond last Saturday, should be quite capable of making tomorrow’s big clash fast and interesting. On No. 2 area City is fixed to meet Richmond, while as a curtain-raiser to the feature match on the main area, Marist will play Newton. The Ponsonby senior thirteen, and also its first juniors, have the bye to-morrow, and both teams left for Hikurangi this afternoon to meet two of the northern teams. Not a happy augur-y for Gisborne’s reception! * * * In the first four minutes of the Rugby test at Port Elizabeth, last Saturday week, P. J. Nel scored for South Africa and Osier converted. A-Nel of a bad start for New Zealand.
