Lott and Hennessy (America) took the first two sets 6—4, 6—4, and Cochet and Brugnon (France) the next two, 75, 7 —5. Then darkness came*. Mrs. F. I. Mallory (New York) and Hopman (Australia) defeated Sarah Palfrey (Boston) and Austin (Britian) 3 —6, 7—5, 6—2; Miss Wills (America) and Hawkes (Australia) defeated Mrs. Harpre and Gregory 6—l, 6 —o; Edith Cross and Moon (Australia) defeated Mr. and Mrs. Chapin (America), 4—6, 8 — 6, 6 — o.
