Mr. Charles Yates, registrar of the Massey College, Palmer.ston North, with Mrs. Yates, will return to Palmerston North by train this evening, after having been on holiday in Auckland. FAREWELL PARTY The drawing-rooms at “Fernleigh” presented a bright scene last evening on the occasion of’ a farewell party given by friends of Mr. J. Clarke, who leaves to-day for Tasmania. The decorations were carried out with gaily-coloured streamers, and bright Chinese lanterns. Clusters of spring flowers brightened the supper tables and potted shrubs, graceful ferns and bowls of irises turned the lounge into a dainty bower. Miss L. Smith received the guests in a charming frock of moonmist blue georgette, heavily beaded in crystal, with motifs of oriental design. Among those present were: Mrs. J. Dow, gown of black ring velvet, with panels of Chantilly lace. Mrs. Barker, mexique blue frock of crepe alonza, with silver fawn relief. Mrs. Littlejohn, frock of parma violet crepe faille, faced with ivory georgette. Mrs. Bickerdyke, rose du barri frock of marquisette. Miss T. Ryan, frock of foxglove chiffon, with deep hem of russian fur. Miss Mollie Cummings, poinsettia frock of georgette, with ceinture of ecru lace. Miss Daphne Handing, lotus pink frock of taffeta, with panels of tiny ruffled frills. Miss Cicely Browne, frock of sea foam green chiffon, with posies of crimson roses. Miss Iv. LYCEUM CLUB HOSTESS AFTERNOON The lounge of the Lyceum Club was fragrant with spring flowers yesterday when a very enjoyable “hostess afternoon” was given. Mrs. C. R. Keable, Mrs. J. H. Frater, Mrs. C. Prime and Mrs. P. J. McClat.chie were the hostesses. An amusing sketch from Dickens was given during- the afternoon by Mrs.. Kenneth Gordon, who tok the part of “Betsy Prigg,” and Mrs. D’Autreau, who gave a delightfully piquant interpretation of “Sairey Gamp.” The songs. “Danny Boy,” “Under tlie Greenwood Tree,” “Love’s a S; or,” “Coolan Dhu,” and “All in a Garden Green,” by Miss Norene Bennett, and the Scotch recitation, “A Pig in the Bed,” by Mrs. Delama r, were also greatly appreciated. Mrs. O. Prime acted as accompanist. Among the guests were:—Mrs. R. L. Paterson, Mrs. Plummer, Mrs. Johnstone, Mrs. C. F. Bennett, Mrs. Scantlebury, Mrs. Armitage, Mrs. Reid, Mrs. K.
