BLASTING DANGER
RESIDENTS COMPLAIN
MT. ALBERT COUNCIL TO TAKE ACTION
Restrictions, with a view to safeguarding residents, are to be placed on a wording firm in a private quarry in St. Luke’s Road by the , Mount Albert Borough Council. The council made this decision last evening,' as a result of complaints from residents, and its inspector will make investigations. In a letter to the council, Mrs. A. McSweeney alleged that blasting was carried on haphazardly in B.rodie’s metal quarry, which adjoined her property. “One evening, after the men had left, a shot went off in the quarry,” she said. “My house rocked and the lights on one side fused, One of the workmen came running back to see what had happened.” Mrs. McSweeney also alleged that the men had blown their own crane to pieces recently. The town clerk reported that a minister in the locality had telephoned a complaint to the council. He said that a piece of stone 12 inches across had hurtled close to his son. t Councillors viewed the reports seriously, and efforts will be made to prevent similar occurrences. Mr. L. E. Rhodes, Mayor, pointed out that the council had the power to enfbrce restrictions. Cr. Buckley was assured that the workmen had tickets regarding their ability.
