PHILISTINES’ CLUB

ENJOYABLE PROGRAMME SATURDAY’S REVEL A particularly fine programme was provided on Saturday for the fortnightly assembly of the Philistines, when Mr. J. W. Wilson, the club secretary, took the chair for' the evening. Mr. W. Graeme Holder provided* some humour, which proved most popular with the audience, and Miss Linda Murphy was recalled three times for her contributions. Mr. R. A. Singer gave a masterly reading from "Hassan,” taking the powerful scene between the lovers who were forced to choose between lifelong separation and death by torture. Vocal items were given' by Mr. Eskrigge (tenor), Mrs. Keven (soprano) and Mrs. Wallace Good, and the wellknown quartette, Misses Myrtle Burns and Myra Monk, Mr. Fryer-Raisher and Mr. Hugh Woods. Mr. Ron. Muston played two enjoyable violin solos, and the programme concluded with several popular melodies by the “Snappy Three.” Mrs. B. E. Bird acted as accompaniste. Mrs. Bird, gobelin blue georgette frock with rayon beading. Mrs. W. J. Saunders, blacjc georgette frock with diamante relief. Mrs. Harold King, figured frock of cardinal red and black. Mrs. Burton,, frock of unrelieved black satin and vellum tinted shawl. Mrs. Dittos, shrimp georgette frock with pailette embroidery. Madam Edith Baird, black beaded ninon frock. Mrs. Harle Giles, primrose satin frock. Mrs. Clarke, blush rose ninon frock. Mrs. Sinclair, pervenche blue georgette frock belted with phlox pink velvet. Mrs. F. J. Hutchinson, petunia velvet frock. Miss Linda Murphy, bouffant frock of white taffeta, with a deep floral hem. Miss Myrtle Burns, chenille frock of powder blue. Miss M. Ormiston, deep rose velvet frock.
