BARBERS’ WAGES

FIXED BY COURT Hours of work and wages under the Whangarei Hairdressers’ Award have been fixed by the Arbitration Court. Hours of work are not to exceed 48 a week, exclusive of meal hours, and are to be worked between S a.m. and 5.30 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Thursdays, and S a.m. to 8.30 p.m. on Saturdays. Minimum wages are set down as: Journeymen, £4 17s 6d a week, no assistant receiving a higher rate before the award, to have his wages reduced. Casual labour is to be paid not less than £1 2s 6d for long days and 17s 6d for other days, except the halfholiday, when it shall receive 12s Gd.
