CAPITOL AND EDENDALE
TWO BIG PICTURES ‘‘The Showdown,” a powerful drama starring George Bancroft, will be shown at the Capitol and Edendale Theatres this evening. Played in the remote districts of Mexico’s back country, where every man is a potential enemy, ‘ The Showdown” finds Bancroft playing the role Of a wandering oil driller. Into his life come three men who hays followed him from one field after another, because they know he has a sixth sense which tells him where oil can be found. As the struggle between Bancroft and his rivals settles into grim and deadly earnest, a girl suddenly arrives, fresh from the refinements of New York. The situations which develop from the presence of a gently nurtured girl in this wild spot form a drama in which Bancroft’s genius as an actor shines. “The Pioneer Scout,” a Western story starring Fred Thompson, will be the second attraction. This .story is laid in the period about 1850, showing the thrilling experiences of the relay scouts who guided waggons across the plains in spite of hostile Indians.
One of the most exciting sequences in Johnny Hines’s forthcoming First National picture takes place on a large yacht cruising far out at sea. This necessitated the company remaining aboard for three or four days while the scenes were, in “movie” parlance, “shot.” Louise Lorraine, a petite and up-and-coming star, is the inimitable Johnny’s leading lady, and provides a splendid foil to his irrepressible humour.
