RARE LIZARD DIES

SPECIMEN FROM SOLOMON ISLANDS T>ROBABLY a combination of colder New Zealand weather, the effects of a long voyage from the Solomon Islands and the amused comments of Aucklanders on its unusually quaint name, has caused a scink to die at the Auckland Zoo. The scink, a rare Western Pacific lizard, was caught by native boys and was brought to Auckland on the mission steamer Southern Cross. It died a few hours after reaching the zoo. A travelling companion, a young crocodile from Vanikoro (Santa Cruz Islands) has not been perturbed by his new surroundings.
