corded the best time over 12 furlongs for the session, tramping 3.24 2-5. Her sudden return to such brilliancy was not generally anticipated, with the result keen followers of the Tomkinson stable were rewarded with an unusually good price. Consistent But Unlucky ICerrwood Bell was the unlucky trotter of the fixture. On the opening day she just missed a place in both starts, while on the Wednesday twothirds was her portion. With Maxegin an absentee on the final day, the daughter of Coldstream Bells looked to have a great chance of collecting the major part of the cheque, but she was unlucky enough to strike Happy Rosa in attractive mood.and was forced to be content with second berth. Reaching Best Society Tamerlane, a general favourite with Auckland speculators, covered himself with. glory on the concluding day of the carnival. From 84yds behind he put in a wonderful effort at the end of the 12-furlong event, which carried him ipto third position, and this proved the signal to a large number on the course to be with Bussell’s trotter in the big go. Off the front he gave the cracks no show and won nicely, tramping 4.34, which puts him in the foreground for the rich square-gaited items. Two Good Performances Bonny Spec trotted two fine races at Addington, and her win on the middle day was full of merit, as she footed it up the straight at the finish with Young Bljike and wrested the first certificate from him. On Monday Townleys’ mare was the only competitor in the big heat that could keep Tamerlane busy, and although the daughter Bon Patch was beaten into second berth, her performance was a meritorious one, and she covered the journey In 4.31 1-5. Money Spider Is Well Despite the fact the Money Spider could only finish third in the Addington Trot on Monday, ten lengths away from the first pair, his performance & rK rfc 'j\~ ” y\~ r |-f THAT PLEASE EXPLAIN r PO those who followed closely the reports of the forward running of Peter Bingen in both the August and King George Handicaps at Addington, it came as a surprise that a “please explain” was handed to trainer-driver Kennerley when he drove the brother to Great Bingen home a winner in the National Cup. On the first day Peter Bingen from 36 yards behind was well in the picture and finished close behind the placed horses in a race run in wonderful time. From 24 yards behind on the middle day he was again prominent in the mud, and finally was rewarded by a win in the National Cup, where he was placed in the front line. Kennerley evidently did not have much trouble in satisfying the authorities that all was well, so once again, “all’s well that ends well.” was a fine one, as he went a shade better than his handicap of 4.29. This effort proves that the Bryce trotter is well forward and it should not be long before the son of Lorene’s Todd and Mantle will be making salutations to the man in the box. High-Class Pacers The pacers in both the first and second divisions provided fans with plenty of excitement, while with the exception of the middle day, when the track was heavy and fast times well out of the question, those filling the places were called upon to improve on their handicaps, some being unfortun-
