Bluff Oysters

Almost Decided Issue of Southland Game AUCKLANDERS ON TOUR The succulent Stewart Island oyster delighted many of the Auckland Rugby players while they were in the South, and the possibility of over-indulgence being reflected in the game against Southland was averted only by the exercise of considerable strategy on the part of the teaih manager. Mr. A. Tilly, who reported to the Rugby Union Management Committee last evening on the events of the tour mentioned the enthusiasm shown at Invercargill. “The day before the game with Southland,” he said, “We were motored to the Bluff, where he saw fresh Stewart Island oysters. Many of our fellows rushed them, and I was afraid that there might be bad results if they ate too many. “I suggested that it would be better to have a tangi after the game, offering to provide a sack of oysters for the occasion. The tangi did not eventuate, and the oysters were taken on the train. “The boys got rid of a good many of them on the long journey up to Christchurch, but the sack, by no means empty, was taken on the ferry steamer at Lyttelton.”
