The Hon. E. W. Alison, M.L.C., left last evening by train for Wellington. Mr. Henry Hayward will leave for Wellington this evening on a business trip. • Mr. Ned Perry, well known in Wellington Rugby and bdxing circles, is at present visiting Auckland. Mr. S. J. Smith, Secretary of the Cfiok Islands Department, left for Wellington last evening by train. The Rev. H. Van Staveren returned to Wellington by traiq last evening after a visit to Whangarei. Mr. P. D. N. Verschaffelt, of Wellington, Public Service Commisioner, is staying at the Star Hotel. Mr. C. A. Wilson and Mr. R. T. Reid arrived from the South by the Limited this morning. Mr. W. S. Reddell, of Dunedin, was a passenger from the South by the Limited this v morning. Canon E. U. Strong, vicar of St. Mary’s, New Plymouth, arrived in Auckland this morning by the Limited. Mr. C. G. Macindoe, who has been visiting Wellington, returned to Auckland this morning by the Limited. Mr. M. J. Savage, Mr. W. J. Girling, Mr. W. E. Parry and Mr. J. S. Dickson, M.P.’s. left for Wellington last evening. Members of the New South Wales Rugby team arrived in Auckland this morning by the Limited. They are staying at the Royal Hotel. Sympathy with Dr. A. N. McKelvey, Medical Superintendent of the Auckland Infirmary, whose wife died recently, was expressed by the Auckland Hospital Board yesterday. Dr. Jessie Alexander has resigned from the junior resident medical staff of the Auckland Hospital and Dr. Rex Hetherington has been appointed in her place. A Thames boy, he is returning from Edinburgh University. Mr. George Knight was congratulated by the Hospital Board yesterday on having entered his 81st year. “He has been a public benefactor for a long time,” said the chairman, Mr. W. Wallace, “and we hope he will be long spared to carry out his many duties.” Mr. Knight said he was not feeling his duties a burden yet. Mr. T. W. Lonsdale, of North Auckland, formerly manager of the Moumahaki State Farm, has been appointed to act in an advisory capacity to the farmers of the Wanganui -Rangitikei districts.
