CAUGHT SCARLET FEVER IN HOSPITAL
RESULT OF CONGESTION Risk of cross-infection feared by the hospital authorities owing to congestion in the infectious diseases wards seems to have come about. Complaining that his little daughter admitted suffering from diphtheria, had contracted scarlet fever through sleeping with another child in hospital, Mr. W. L. Clifte wrote to the board yesterday. A report from the medical superintendent stated that, owing to the congestion, another child who, however, did not have scarlet fever, had slept with the girl a few times at night. “This is the effect of the congestion.” said the chairman, Mr. William Wallace. “We have been fighting to get an infectious diseases block. A result of the delay has been that a number of people have contracted other diseases in the wards.” It was decided to remit the fees charged to the child while she yyas suffering from scarlet fever.
