N.Z. BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT
CHAMPIONSHIPS COMMENCE THIS AFTERNOONS PLAY Standing at various points of vantage round the Wellesley Street courts, hundreds of neatly-uni-formed girls and a good muster of enthusiasts witnessed the opening games of the third annual tournament of the New Zealand Basketball Association, staged this afternoon. The tourney opened with a hard and fast game between Southland (Red) and Taranaki (Yellow and Black). Taranaki started well and managed two goals in quick succession. As the spell advanced Southland, with snappy diagonal passing, turned the tables and tho bell sounded for half-time with tHh score 14—2 in its favour. Play retained much of its vim in tho second half, and certxinly became more interesting when Taranaki gained another two goals by brilliant play.
