HABITUAL THIEF GOES TO GAOL “He has a long list and is an habitual thief.” Thus described by Chief-Detective Hammond, George Knudson, aged 46, a labourer and seaman, pleaded guilty at the Police Court this morning to'the theft of a pair of boots valued at 18s lid, the property of the City Boot Stores. “He stole the boots from the shop doorway and. sold them to a dealer,” said Mr. Hammond. Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M.: WTiat have you to say? Knudson: lam very sorry. Mr. McKean: And I suppose you have been sorry all the other times. You are in and oust of gaol all the time. I might just as well send you there for a long term. Knudson: Give me a chance to get into the country and I won’t cause any more trouble. Mr. Hammond: The country is his only chance. As long as he hangs round the town he will steal whenever he gets a chance. A term of three months’ imprisonment was imposed.
