MANGERE ' CHAMPIONSHIPS SEMI-FINAL STAGES The open badminton championship tournament being run by the Mangere Club reached the final stages last evening, the form displayed being excellent. Further results were as follow: Men’s Doubles. —Ist round: Kelly and Robieson beat Paul and Montgomerie, 17—14, 15—7; Dart and C. Ellett beat R. Ellett and Bell 15 —5, 15—4. Semifinals: Kelly and Robieson beat Southon and F § hworth, 15—9, 15 —11; C. Ellett and Dart beat Kissling and Jones, 15—5, 15—9. Mixed Doubles.—Semi-final; Kelly and Miss A. Ellett beat Dart and Miss M. Macfarlane, 6—15, 15—6, 17—14. Ladies’ Doubles.—Semi-final; Miss Macfarlane and Miss Craig beat Miss Paul and Miss Ellett, 15—11, IS—l3; Mrs. Dart and Miss Solomon beat the Misses Waters, 15—11, 15—3. The game of the evening was that between Kelly and Miss Ellett and Dart and Miss Macfarlane. Dart and his partner played the side-by-side combination against the back-and-front combination of the other side. Dart won the first set easily with brilliant placing. The second set saw Miss Macfarlane making mistakes, but in the third set she and Dart led away 14—S and the match looked over. The ultimate winners made a magnificent recovers’-, winning 9 points in a row to take the set and go into the final. Tlie Macfarlane-Craig against PaulEllett match, in the ladies’ doubles, and the Kelly-Robieson v. Southon-Rish-worth game in the men’s doubles were both excellent matches.
