COST MUST RISE
minister OF EDUCATION answers deputation system almost obsolete Press Association. WELLINGTON, To-day. Four questions of importance to teachers, salaries, superannuation, smaller classes, and regulations, were brought to-day before the Minister of Education, the lion. R. A. Wright, by deputation front the executive of the Educational Institute. The Minister said that one factor „eemed clear, that any new basis of salary would increase the cost of ~duration- However, it seemed to hint !bat the present system had served its purpose and was now practically obsolete. Any assistance the institute could give in drawing up a new scheme would be welcomed. although he thought the Government would be forced to strengthen its superannuation fund. It was his aim to bring all classes down to 40, and he had been striving as far as possible to give classes separate rooms. It should be their aim to make the primary school system as perfect as possible.
