Mr. J- Thomson, chief Government land purchase officer, left for the Waikato this morning. Mr. W J- Poison, president of the Xew Zealand Farmers’ Union, is on a health visit to Rotorua. Bishop IT. W. Cleary, who was injured in a motor accident four weeks ago. is reported to be recovering satisfactorily. Sir Joseph Ward, who is returning from a visit to England, will leave for Auckland from Vancouver by the Aorangi on Wednesday. The Rev. A. A. Thomson arrived by the Southern Cross from South Mala, Solomon Islands. He will spend a short holiday in New Zealand. Commissioner James Hay, of the Salvation Army, and Mrs. Hay, arrived from Wellington this morning. Brigadier Scotney also arrived. Bishop J. M. Steward, who has retired from the See of Melanesia, returned by the Southern Cross last evening and is staying at Bishopscourt as the guest of the Primate of New Zealand. Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M., left for Wellington last evening on business connected with the I*ost and Telegraph Appeal Board, of which he is chairman. He will be away from Auckland about ten days. Professor J. Macmillan Brown, Chancellor of the University of New Zealand. arrived in Auckland yesterday by the Maui Poniare after a month’s visit to Niue Island. He left by train for Christchurch last evening. Miss Ida C. Wench, head of the school for native girls at Bungana, Solomon Islands, returned by the Mission steamer Southern Cross this morning. She will spend a holiday in New Zealand. Mr. H. Morgan, Registrar of the Hamilton Supreme Court, has been appointed Registrar of the Supreme Court and Official Assignee at Invercargill. His place at Hamilton will be taken by Mr. G. S.
