GIRL LOST IN BUSH
TORCHES, FIRES AND SHOTS USED MIDNIGHT RESCUE
(From Our Own Correspondent) WHANGAREI, To-day. Torches, bonfires and the intermittent firing of a rifle were employed to assist a search party ast night in finding Miss Edna Willcocks, of Whangarei, who was lost in the bush between the Whau Valley suburb of Whangarei and the western end of Kamo town district.
It was midnight when they got a faint answering “cooee,” and the bushed girl, suffering from the bitter cold and the shock of her experience received first-aid and was removed to her home where she is now recovering. She and her brother went ferngathering in the afternoon in bright sunny weather, agreeing to take different paths and to return to the same place where they separated. When she failed to appear he searched and called for some time before returning home and organising a search party, which entered the bush as darkness was falling.
