THE PLAZA AND TIVOLI
“DRESS PARADE” Romance and rivalry at the West Point Military Academy is the theme of the dramatic picture, ‘‘Press Parade,” which will be shown at the Plaza and Tivoli Theatres again this evening. William Boyd and Bessie Love are the stars. Vic Donovan, an athlete, enters in a cross-country race, the prize for winning which is a motor-car. It is during the progress of this race that Vic meets Janet Cleghorne, daughter of the Commandant of West Point Military Academy. Her charms win him but she snubs him and when he seeks to force his attentions upon her, Stuart Haldane, a cadet, calls him to order, explaining he’s not the sort they care for around West Point. This treatment piques Vic’s vanity and he determines to get into West Point regardless of their opinion of him. In this he is successful. Vic frequently meets Janet and despite his boorish exhibition on the first day he saw her, she is attracted to him. A “hop” is staged and Vic falls even more in love with Janet. While the dance is in progress Haldane returns and is warmly welcomed by Janet.
Believing he has lost her, Vic grows careless and Haldane reprimands him. Vic feels it is prompted by personal animosity and says so. Haldane resents this unfair attitude and, against regulations, agrees to fight Vic but is badly beaten. An exciting and interesting Western story is also being shown at these theatres in Ken Maynard’s picture, “The Upland Rider.” The story is typically modern in scope and deals with two rival horse ranches in the West. One of these ranches breeds and raises the wellknown cow-pony of the West called “Palominos.” The picture tells of the efforts of an Easterner to introduce a higher type of horse of Arabian strain to supplant the cow-pony.
The decision of the question as to which horses are the best and which ranch will secure the army contract is decided upon by a cross-country horse race, in which more thrills have been packed than any previous Maynard feature.
Marion Douglas has the leading feminine role and the balance of the cast comprises a competent list of players.
