AUGUST BREAKS THE ICE
■pOLLOWERS of the light-har-ness sport in Auckland were pleased to learn of the success of Mr. F. Young's pacer, Lord Lu, in Sydney this week. The son of Lord Nepean formed one of S. M. August's string which crossed the Tasman recently, and he was looked upon as the one most likely to score early in the session. Good judges are confident, however, that the Great Northern Derby candidate, Alice Axworthy, I (Worthy Bond —Hundalee) will score well while in the Commonwealth, and some go so far as to aver that August's youngster will be the main hope of Auckland against the Southerners in the October classic. But it must not be forgotten there are a couple of other locals with big prospects o? securing Derby honours.
