CITY AND LOCAL BODIES TRANSPORT DISPUTE . Following a conference this mornthe Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, stated that a reply was being sent to the °utside local bodies concerning the Proposed transport discussion before the City Council on Tuesday, but he to make any statement. The town clerk, Mr. J. S. Brigham. Remarked that there had been too muc'j ln the Press already. The Mayor and town clerk returned from Wellington this morning, accompanied by Councillor J. A. C. Allum, chairman of the tramways committee. The three conferred with the tJeputyMayor, Councillor A. J. Entrican, concerning the letter from the local bodies which asserted that a deputation from the local bodies to put forward views °n the finding of the Transport Commission would be merely a waste of time. The local bodies desired a discussion with a view to legislation. A letter from the City Council is now being sent in reply to this.
