£750 FOR CHILDREN

YESTERDAY’S APPEAL

“SUNSHINE SCHOOL” SCHEME ADVANCED

To help in the establishing of a ■‘sunshine school” in Auckland, well over £750 was raised by a street collection held by the Play and Recreation Association yesterday. The amount was collected in the city and suburbs by 200 workers in a 12hours’ campaign. "The collectors’ work is greatly ap-> preciated,” Mrs. N. E. Ferner, organiser. said. “The committee is well satisfied with the results of the campaign to equip the ‘sunshine school.' ” Funds are to be devoted to the care of sick and convalescent children, and the proposal to f‘»rm a “sunshine school” has been given good support:. The suggestion came from prominent Auckland doctors when the Play and Recreation Association. Freeman’s Bay, was making a move for new quarters. An honorary staff has been offered, and when formation is assured there will be a nurse. Particular benefit would result in the summer time, when sunshine treatment could be developed under practical guidance. Full support is coming from the medical profession in Auckland. Before the street appeal- the association required £2,000 to equip and remodel a new building for the scheme.
