FELL FROM BICYCLE
DEATH THROUGH BRAIN INJURIES Death through injuries to the brain caused by an accidental fall from a bicycle was the verdict returned by the coroner, Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., at an inquest held this morning on William Harvey Collings, aged 47, who was killed on Orakei Hill on August 4.
Harold Beresford said he was cycling with Collings, whose bicycle became uncontrollable coming down Orakei Hill. Endeavouring to negotiate the sharp turn at the bottom of the hill, he had missed the bridge and shot into the creek and up the bank on the other side. Corroborative evidence was given by C. L. Young, a taxi-driver, who said that he saw Beresford bathing the injured man’s head. Witness said that he had examined the brakes on Colling’s bicycle and found them inefficient.
