Hawkes, 3 —(l, »Jl 0 2 Bell’s victory was most surprising. It was first match in the tournament. PI. O. Hopman (Australia) defeated J. Olhausen (Philadelphia), 4 —6, B—6, 6 —2. neil defeated Wright, the Canadian Davis Cup player, 4 —6, 6 —4, 6—2. Dr. George King (New York) eliminated Onda, 6—4. 6—4. Hopmun defeated Dr. Carl Fisher (Philadelphia) in the third round, 6—3, 6—4. Crawford was eliminated by Hopman, 6 3, 7 —’s. In the doubles Kong and Liira (China) defeated Beales and Dixon, g_ 4i o—3;0 —3; Deleon (Mexico) and Burwell’ (Atlanta) defeated Partridge and Fisher (New York), 7—5, 6 —4. On the fourth day of the tennis tourney a strong, gusty wind caused erratic play. Cummings (Australia) entered the last eight with Greig and Sleem by defeating Menzel (Czecho-Slovakia), 7 B—6, 6—l. Fraulein Krasswinkel beat Mrs. O’Hara Wood, 6 —3, 3 —6, 6—4. Boyd beat Saterthwaite, 6 —4, 6—l. Cummings and Moon beat Mateika and Schomburgh, 7—5, 6 —4. 6 —2. In the mixed doubles Akhurst and Miss Moon beat Fraulein Hoffmann and Lorenz, 6—2, 6 —4; Mrs. O’Hara Wood and Hillyard beat Fraulein Krasswinkel and Heidenrich, 6—2, 6—4; Miss Boyd and Lane beat Fraulein Munster and Thummel, 6—4, 6—4.
