SWIMMING IN AUCKLAND

CENTRE HOLDS MEETING TREASURER RESIGNS At last evening’s meeting of the Auckland Swimming Centre the resignatio nof Mr. C. A. Edenborough, honorary treasurer and delegate of the Waitemata Club to the centre, was accepted. The resignation was the result of a ladies’ diving contest held at the Regent Theatre, under the control of the centre, a few months ago. Mr. Edenborough was the only delegate to oppose the holding of the contest, and he sent in his resignation as a protest. Last evening the matter was discussed, and a motion that his resignation be accepted was carried unanimously. Mr. R. M. Sheffield was appointed to take Mr Edenborough’s place. The chairman, Mr. J. Enwright, reported that he had waited on the Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, to ask that privilege should be granted for water polo practice at the Tepid Baths between 5 and 6 p.m. on week days during the winter. The Mayor had promised to obtain a report from the manager of the baths, Mr. M. E. Champion. The chairman interviewed the Mayor again, a short time afterwards, and was informed that Mr. Champion was strongly against the setting aside of hours for water polo practice, because only a few players attended tlie practices. Members of the centre said that when Mr. Champion allowed practices at the baths about two years ago two teams were always present.
