N.Z. RUGBY LEAGUE
COUNCIL MEETING HELD TO-MORROW’S REFEREE The usual weekly meeting of the council of the New Zealand Rugby League was held last evening, Mr. Cyril Snedden presiding. Tho incident that caused the second spell of last Saturday’s test match to be commenced while six of the New Zealand players were off the field was also discussed, and Mr. Snedden said the onus was on the players, who wilfully disobeyed the referee’s instructions to remain on the ground. It was decided to inform the members of the Auckland team that they must remain on the ground to-morrow Mr. W. Mincham was appointed referee to the Auckland v. England match to-morrow, and Messrs. P. Rogers and H. McKubrey linesArrangements for the dispatch of a New Zealand team to Dunedin for the second test against England were discussed at some length. Mr. W Murray, one of the selectors, said that those likely to be chosen had been approached and it was intended the team should leave Auckland on Monday. The local members of the New Zealand team had been training during the week. It was decided that while the team was touring, additional allowance would be paid to married men. The team will be finally chosen to-morrow The failure of the South Auckland players to notify the selectors until a late hour that they were unavailable to play for the Auckland provincial team on Wednesday was mentioned by the chairman, who said that an explanation was due, seeing considerable difficulty had been experienced in replacing these men. The programme, too, was misleading as a result. Mr. W Taylor’s explanation that the players concerned were unable to obtain leave closed the discussion.
