BOYS’ FATAL QUARREL

BLOW DEATH HEAD STRIKES WINDOW

Press Association. WELLINGTON, Wednesday. An inquest was held to-day into the death of Roy T.'/nury, aged 12, of Constable Street, Newtown. The circumstances disclosed by evidence were that Tilbury and another boy, James King, aged 13, had quarrelled, it being alleged that Tilbury had frequently called King names and squirted water at him. Deceased and a friend were standing by a confectioner’s shop on July 27, when King came past and struck deceased on the eye with his fist. Tilbury, in falling, struck his head against the window. He did not appear hurt at the time, but two days later complained of pains in the head. The boy was examined by a doctor and removed to hospital on August 1. He died there on August 4. Medical evidence was to the effect that death was due to a fracture of the temple, extending into the nose, followed by acute meningitis. James King said he did not mean to hurt deceased, the blow being given as a warning. After the blow witness ran away. “I do not think,’* said the coroner, Mr. E. Page, “that King had any desire to do the boy any real injury.” A finding in accordance with the medical evidence was returned.
