GIFTS FOR HOME

NAVY LEAGUE’S WORK'""

For distribution among: the dependants oi’ sailors in the United Kingdom, gifts of clothing were displayed in the Navy League rooms yesterday afternoon. Material for flannel garments had been purchased in New Zealand by the committee and had been made up in schools. Some of the frocks were made by Paeroa District High School children. Letters have reached the league acknowledging similar gifts last year. Mr. John Alexander, league president, stated his appreciation of the work which was done by the ladies’ committee, and another by Mrs. Gallaugher, president of the ladies’ committee. During the afternoon a programme of songs and recitations arranged by the girls’ branch of the league was given, songs being sung by Mrs. Gaynor Jackson, Miss Jones and Mrs. De Bergh: recitations by Miss Ailsa Hacket and Mrs. Stratton, and a duet by Miss Jones and Miss Hurst.
